Explain difference between a hash and an encryption cipher

Homework: Experiments with Hashing and Encryption

We are going to try our hand at encryption and hashing of files for this homework. We will be using AES, MD5 and SHA256. You can find your own tools for doing this, or you can use online tools, or tools built into your computer operating system. I've provided a couple of links below for your reference.

o Open a text file in a text editor of your choice.

o In your own words, explain the difference between a hash and an encryption cipher.

o Hash your answer using MD5 and save this in the line below your answer. Don't hash any extra returns or whitespace.

o Now hash your answer using SHA256 and save this in a new line below the MD5 hash.

o Finally, encrypt your answer using AES256 and save the encrypted text below your SHA hash.

o Put your "secret" or "key" in the line below your encrypted answer.

o List any tools or websites you used to complete the hashing and encryption.

Format your homework according to the following formatting requirements:

o The answer should be typed, using Times New Roman font (size 12), double spaced, with one-inch margins on all sides.

o The response also includes a cover page containing the title of the homework, the student's name, the course title, and the date. The cover page is not included in the required page length.

o Also include a reference page. The Citations and references must follow APA format. The reference page is not included in the required page length.
