Explain Detention or Retention Ponds
Detention/Retention Ponds: Designed to reduce and contain the peak runoff from developed areas (more impervious). Attempt to limit the runoff rate to pre-development conditions to prevent flooding. Termed "equalization basins" in wastewater treatment plants to capture peak influent flows to prevent bypasses.
