Explain a little about your family history

Problem:

We all have a language story... Unique experiences with acquiring, using or learning one or more languages or language varieties (e.g., dialects of the same language). Read my language story here. Your task: In this first forum discussion, I want you to reflect on your linguistic background. This will be your language story. You can use any or all of the following questions to guide your reflection and reference this week's readings (in particular, the Heritage Language Briefs and the Preface in Polinsky (2018)).

Note: for this discussion post only, you do not need to respond to other classmates' posts because we will spend some time talking about this in class. Where were you born, and what languages were spoken around you at the time? Did you move, emigrate, or otherwise have a change in upbringing that changed the language(s) you were learning as a baby? Did you have grandparents or other relatives who spoke different languages from you or your parents? Explain a little about your family history (as much as you feel comfortable) and the languages spoken by parents/caregivers, grandparents, and the community. Were there any experiences you had with your language/languages that made you think, made you sad, made you happy, or made you proud?
