Problem:
A Good Response For This Discussion Forum I have a friend who has experienced a challenging childhood and later became a well-transformed adult. He is a real person. We became friends in high school.
As a child, my friend moved around a lot because his parents were in the military. As a result of the constant relocation, he struggled to build long-term relationships with his peers either at home or at school. This instability affects him in several ways. He was shy and introverted in social settings.
One major protective factor that I am aware of in his life was him joining the football team. Being part of such a structured team gave him stability, consistency, and a sense of belonging. Our coach served as a supportive adult figure who provided guidance, expectations, and encouragement. Coach created a "buddy" system. This was a system where two people were responsible for one another at all times, especially during school hours. I remember I would have to tell my buddy that I have a doctor's appointment and will not be able to attend practice. In a situation where either of us doesn't know the other's whereabouts, we would have to do extra sets during the workout. This system forced so many introverted people on the team. Such as my buddy, to be outspoken and make a real connection and friendship.
Coach was his protective factor by encouraging him to participate in the buddy system. Coach challenged him to interact with others even when he felt shy and withdrawn, and being part of the football team naturally required communication and cooperation.
I remember he used to be shy to answer questions in class, even when he knew the answers. As a result of the protective factor (Coach), he has become a functioning adult who is no longer shy. He is now a social media influencer, and his job requires him to publicly speak at different locations. Something he wasn't capable of prior to joining the football team. Need Assignment Help?
