Expected value in discrete case


Can someone please check my answer for the following pdf, if its correct, can you then explain how I would get E(X) in this case; I under expected value in discrete case, but not continuous. If my answer is not correct, can you please provide the solution so I can understand whats going on. Please show all work because I'll be tested on this eventually, so I need to be able to understand how the answer was derived.

pdf f(x)=kx/8 for 1 < x <3 and equals 0 elsewhere. Here k denotes some constant.
