Excellent examples. Do you feel that an ethical dilemma becomes more of a moral issue for the nurses caring for the patient? They are passing judgment based on their own personal values and beliefs, however, are wishes of the patient being fulfilled.
Do you feel the legal system is particularly unprepared to resolve sensitive ethical issues?
In many ethical conflicts, no laws deal specifically with the issues at hand. In other types of conflicts, general legal principles or laws can be cited that offer guidelines; however, ethical dilemmas are often complicated by circumstances not addressed by the legal system. When the legal system does make decisions concerning ethical dilemmas, those cases can be cited later as precedents. Your thoughts?
