Examining sand with a magnifying glass
Study a small amount of sand with a magnifying glass or under the low power of a microscope if there is single available. The nearly colourless crystals are those of mineral known as quartz which is the commonest mineral on earth. Crystals of other minerals can rarely be found in sand. See if you can find any others.
