Examines hrm from the perspective of a manager

Discuss the below in detail:

Every year, Fortune magazine partners with the Great Place to Work Institute to conduct the most extensive employee survey in corporate America. This year 280 firms participated in the survey. To pick the 100 Best Companies to Work For, Fortune uses nine (9) standards to evaluate the companies, including:

1. quality of management

2. quality of products and services

3. innovation

4. long-term investment value

5. financial soundness

6. responsibility to community and environment

7. wise use of corporate assets

8. global business knowledge

9. ability to attract, develop, and retain talent

A company's overall ranking is based on the average of the scores in all nine (9) categories.

For the paper:

1. Go to the following Web site to see Fortune's 2013 "100 Best Companies to Work For:" https://money.cnn.com/magazines/fortune/bestcompanies/.

2. From the list of the top 50 companies, choose any company except Google that interests you. You might want to review the company's website before starting on your exam.

3. Based on what you can learn at the company's website, class readings, group discussions, and research from credible sources, identify and analyze why you think your company is the best company to work for based on aspects of HRM practices (see the list of HRM practices in the first statement below).

Content of material on which you will be graded:

HRM practices/areas include: Culture, Recruitment, Training, Performance Management, Employee Relations, Compensation, Benefits, and Diversity.

Choose at least four (4) of the above HRM areas and

• Summarize and provide examples of the company's practices

• Relate the HRM practices to the company's business strategy and success (e.g., how is the HRM practice implemented, used, incorporated, developed, measured to help the company)

o Review the key point on strategy in Hammond's "Why We Hate HR" article

o Review the Google Articles to see how the Institute selected the company as its "Best Company to Work For"

o Review the Lessons Learned document attached to the final exam assignment icon

References should be provided on the last page and follow APA format. (Examples of APA format are: Coleman, (2005). "Diversity in Marymount Students: A cross cultural perspective." Journal of Cultural Management 22(3), 120-126.)

You need to have at least five (5) references, three (3) of which should be from written sources (no blogs), or contemporary business sources (e.g., Harvard Business Review, Forbes, Money Magazine) written in the last two (2) years.

• All articles/URLs should be turned in with the paper.

• Materials found on the company website count as one (1) reference (no matter how many pages were used).

• Interviewing a current/former employee of the company or member of the company HR team may also be used in place of one (1) reference.

Merely listing and/or copying items from your reference materials, especially websites, will reduce your grade.

• You should analyze (break down the topic into its parts and examine, question, explore to create something new) how the HRM elements relate to the company's strategy and success.

Given that this course examines HRM from the perspective of a manager who wishes to effectively use his/her human resources and interact with HR professionals rather than assuming the student wants to become an HR professional, your paper should demonstrate that you have a working knowledge of the HR practices you choose to write about not that you are an HR specialist.

The paper should be at least five (5) pages (1 page each for Intro/Conclusion and 4 HRM areas) but no longer than eight (8) pages.

• The length of the paper exclude your Reference page, graphs, charts, attachments, or appendices.
