Core Measures are considered tools or standardized metrics that provide an indication of an organization's performance. This data is collected and compared to other hospitals of similar size. The Joint Commission began collecting this data from hospitals in July, 2002. Complete an Internet search to find out more information about core measures. As the manager of the HIM department it is your responsibility to keep the department staff updated on the process for submitting data to JCAHO and also why this submission is necessary. Illustrate the steps that are taken to submit the data to the Joint Commission for core measures and the purpose of submitting this data.
Examine the role of the HIM department in the process of submitting Core measures to the Joint Commission as compared to the roles and responsibilities of other departments within a healthcare organization.
