Assignment:

For this assignment, address the questions below in a two-page essay, using at least two outside sources. You may use charts, but make certain that you at least have two full pages of text. Avoid numbering your responses to the questions below; rather, format this assignment as an essay. You are telling a story of a case, by taking what you have learned and applying it to the following:

1. Refer to, and pick any of the disorders discussed. Imagine you have a client who possesses your chosen disorder. Explain how this person may act, think, or feel due to his or her diagnosis. Based on your reading, what crime is he or she most likely to commit, and why? Use your textbook and at least one outside source to back up your theory of the link between the disorder and the crime. Explain the person, his or her disorder, and the crime that was committed.

2. How is this disorder different from the others discussed in the chapter (in terms of symptoms and its link to crime)?

3. Now, imagine it is six months later, and this same person has entered the criminal justice system again, except this time he or she is also using a substance. Pick a substance, and explain how the substance and mental illness are related and how this may have caused the person to end up in the system yet again.

Be sure to refer to, and examine the link between substances and crime. Also, find one outside source relating to your drug and the crime chosen. In this section, discuss your client, the crime that was committed, and how substance abuse was related.

Note: The Disorder for is Asperger's Disorder with the crime of Arson.
