Assignment:
Purpose:
1. The assignment helps you learn to find information on civil rights legislation so that you can know more about your rights.
2. The assignment also highlights what each branch of government does when influencing policy and law.
3. This assignment will show you how you can influence government policies and be an active citizen.
Knowledge:
1. This case study allows you to examine the different functions of the legislative, executive and judiciary branches of America Government; and
2. This study also allows you to examine how interest groups and individuals can affect policy and politics.
Tasks:
1. Choose Topic below or submit an alternative piece of legislation for me to approve. Topics must be approved,

? The Fair Housing Act
? The Americans with Disabilities Act
2. Find 5-8 academically sound sources. Five sources are required. Wikipedia, about.com, ehow.com, etc. are not allowed as they are open source which means anyone can add content. This means they are not academically sound.

4. Paper should include an opening paragraph, outlining the scope and purpose of your paper.
5. For the next section, please evaluate and explain the purpose of the legislation you chose for the case study. Why was the legislation passed?
6. Look at what Congress has, and is, doing in regard to this legislation. How is the Executive Branch (ie, the bureaucracy) implementing it? Have there been any Supreme Court cases addressing this legislation? When researching, be sure to critically assess patterns and relations of power.
7. In the final critical analysis section, discuss how interest groups and individuals participate in the legislative process (This is sometimes referred to as civic engagement)? Please provide specific examples.
8.Conclude with a separate conclusion summarizing your main findings. What do you think will happen with this legislation in the next 5-10 years?
