Assignment

Review the Research Paper instructions found within the Research Paper link in Week Five. Then, prepare and submit a plan for your Research Paper that includes the following:

Title

Your title should be concise and include key words that pertain to your proposed research. It should not be more than 10 to 12 words in length.

Research Objectives

This section should be two to three paragraphs long. You must describe the topic and research objectives as well as outline the content, direction, and purpose of the Research Paper. Refer to the Research Paper instructions in Week Five for available topics.

Annotated Bibliography

An annotated bibliography is a critical summary of the scholarly sources you will use in your Research Paper. Take time to think about the sources you choose, read them, and decide how you will use them to develop your Research Paper topic.

For each source, create a one-paragraph annotation that summarizes the source's major claims and describe how the material will be useful to the Research Paper.

The annotations should be placed below each corresponding source on your reference page. For an example, please view the Sample Annotated Bibliography from the Ashford Writing Center.

Thesis Statement

Once you have read through and annotated the sources you located, you should be able to write a thesis statement that reflects the requirements of the Research Paper.

The thesis statement should convey the purpose and main idea of your paper to the reader. For help creating the thesis statement, please use the Thesis Generator tool  from the Ashford Writing Center and/or visit the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Writing Center.

This Research Preparation assignment should be about two pages in length (excluding the title page) and must be formatted according to APA style.

The Research Paper will examine how gender is expressed in different communities and will provide you with an opportunity to discuss the status of women in various cultures.

In yourResearch Paper, you will examine the ways in which gender and sexuality have been constructed in specific cultural and historical contexts, and how these categories have been analyzed by anthropologists.

• Religion, Homosexuality, and Gender Identity in Africa

• Women's Health and Reproductive Rights

• Patriarchy, the Taliban, and the Education of Girls in Afghanistan

Other topics may be chosen, but must be cleared with the instructor first.
