Course Learning Outcomes: The following outcomes describe what a student will know, understand and be able to do upon completion of this subject.
1. Construct quantitative and qualitative research methods relevant to tourism and hospitality.

Assignment Task 1A - Research Proposal (Primary Research)
Task Length: 3000 to 3,500 words.
Task Requirements: Prepare the Research Proposal. (Individual Task)
Write a Research Proposal for a chosen topic pertaining to a contemporary issue in the hospitality and tourism industry. Lecturers approval needs to be sought before progressing with the chosen topic.
This task will help the students to develop the research skills including using search engines, selecting secondary resources, and evaluating the relevant information for selecting the contemporary research topic; writing the literature review; identification of the gap and developing the conceptual framework for their research.
Further, the methodological framework for the undertaken research topic needs to be discussed in detail. The analyzed discussion needs to be supported with the relevant theoretical concepts and terminology.

Students should demonstrate the ability to:
1. Analyze a contemporary problem being faced in the hotel industry.
2. Find and critically analyze the information from secondary resources (relevant to the problem) understanding the background to the problem and discuss the various facets of the issue in the Literature review.
3. Meaningfully identify the gap in the literature and identify are field of your research.
4. Identify the research question and the objectives for the research proposal
5. Discuss all the parameters of the methodological framework and provide justifications.
6. Use relevant concepts and theories to support your discussion.
7. Prepare actual Research Proposal in light of the tourism and hospitality projects/issues.
Assignment Task 1B - Questionnaire Design (Primary Research)
Task Length: 1000 words.
Task Requirements: Prepare the Questionnaire for collecting primary data. (This task is related to the Research Proposal, assignment Task 1A).
Design the primary data collection Tool - Questionnaire.
Design the questionnaire using different question format.
Align the questions with the objectives identified in the research proposal (assignment 1A).
Students should demonstrate the ability to:
1. Identify the research question and the objectives for the research proposal.
2. Design a data collection instrument (Questionnaire) for the chosen research topic.
Assignment Task 2 - (Research Project- Data Analysis)
Task Length: 2000 words.
Task Requirements: Each student will need to prepare a report based on the statistical analysis carried out by them for the given data sheet.
In this project you will need to statistically analyze the data sheet (provided) and answer the given questions after analyzing the data from the drawn sample size of 250. Further you will need to present your findings and draw conclusions based on statistical analysis of the data. You will need to compile all the relevant information and present the findings and discussion it a comprehensive research report.

3. Analyze data using various statistical tools and methods.
4. Present clear well-structured arguments in written format.
5. Critically reflect on a nature and purpose of research and evaluation in tourism and hospitality industries.
6. Create a detailed research Report.
Assignment Task 3A - (Research Report)
Task Length: 2000-2500 words.
Task Requirements: This assignment is related to the task 1 (a and b). The student will sort, code and tabulate the primary data collected by means of the questionnaire (designed). This data will then be analyzed using the (learned) statistical tools to interpret the data and arrive at the key findings of the research. Findings need to be discussed in detail and recommendation given for addressing/solving the issue. A comprehensive report addressing all the components of the research will need to be presented.
Assignment Task 3B - (Presentation)
Task Length: 10-15 mins.
Task Requirements: This assignment is related to the task 1 (a and b) and 3a. It is the final and complete presentation of the research that you have carried out with respect to the hospitality and tourism sector. You will need to prepare PowerPoint addressing all the components of your research. The slides should include the - topic; research question; objective; methodology; detailed data analysis findings; recommendation; ethics; limitation and future research.
