Problem: Nursing science, to me, involves evaluating and improving overall patient care through both conscious and unconscious actions and behaviors. Some practices that resonate with me include "making an effort to be intentionally and mindfully present to the other person before you" (Watson, 2008) and "fully listening while holding a compassionate, heart-centered love for others, without immediate judgment." (Kabat-Zinn, 2005). Working in the operating room, where the patient is under anesthesia and the one-on-one connection is brief, I hope to learn ways in which nursing science can enhance that limited time so I can provide the best possible patient care.
