Remember that one perfectly legitimate response to an essay question is to challenge the basis of the question itself. You can argue that it is an invalid question, based, perhaps, on incorrect and unexamined assumptions. In any case, always be sure to interrogate the terms of the question. What do they mean? Do they have more than on' meaning? Do certain terms imply certain theoretical perspectives or cultural sensibilities?
Please choose one of the following questions:
1. Identify and evaluate the principal tenets of neoliberalism in the Australian context. In your essay, consider the matter of the internal coherence of neoliberalism.
2. Analyse populist discourse in the contemporary Australian political setting. Is Australian public political discourse exclusivist, in that it does not reflect many of the attitudes and practices which 'ordinary' Australians see as fundamental?
3. Identify and analyse social democratic expression in Australian political debate.
