1) A variety of research types have combined to create historical and comparative research methods, which are utilized in the study of criminology. Historical research seeks to understand how the rates of criminality and other related behavior have changed over time as societies evolved. Comparative research examines the role of criminality across multiple cultures and/or internationally. Identify one major type of crime, and explain how it would be examined from a historical research perspective and a comparative research perspective. Compare and contrast the types of research components that would be appropriate when examining the crime from a historical and a comparative research perspective.
2) Although interrelated in many ways, the concepts of (1) crime, (2) criminal law, and (3) criminology each have their own unique purpose when examined from a criminal justice theoretical perspective. Define and explain the role of each of these three concepts as they relate to the study of criminal justice. Evaluate the interactions that each concept has with the others and how they work together to define what is viewed as the field of criminal justice.
