Problem:
A SWOT (Strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats) analysis is a great method to evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of an entity. In an undergraduate business course, it might be common to perform a generic or competitive SWOT analysis. In this course, a SWOT analysis is used to evaluate the performance of a public-sector entity.
Prepare a SWOT analysis report on the use of information technology (IT) and strategic management within a public sector entity. You have the opportunity to select the public sector entity (i.e., journal article, product, service, program, regulation, organization, or agency). Keep in mind that if you choose to search for an article, the article itself does not have to be focused on IT or strategic management. As a public administrator, you will be evaluating the use of those items within the article.
Consider one of the following to prepare your report:
- An article from the Internet
- An online application (Used by the public sector)
- A public sector program
- A government regulation
- A strategic plan from the public sector
- A government agency
- An organization in the public sector
- A public sector entity of your choice
Begin the report with a brief description about the public sector entity and what you specifically decided to evaluate.
Include all of the following in your assignment:
- Briefly describe the entity and the focus of the analysis
- Strengths for IT and strategic management
- Weaknesses for IT and strategic management
- Opportunities for IT and strategic management
- Threats for IT and strategic management
- The details of the SWOT analysis
- A chart to represent the four aspects of a SWOT analysis. How would you visually represent this data in a report (i.e., consider ranking the results of the analysis)?
- Recommendations based on the SWOT analysis (i.e., what should change, what should stay the same, and what else could the entity try to improve performance?)
