Evaluate the consequences of the boys

Introduction

Sociological theories of deviance investigate an individual's environment, relationships, and acceptances of societal standards. While sociologists do not agree conceptually on the formation of deviance, most believe an individual's upbringing and family life are among the greatest influences of conforming or dissenting to accepted practices.

Initial Post Instructions

After watching this week's video review, reflect upon deviance in American society. For your initial post, address the following:

In the videos Framing Children's Deviance, two seven year old boys take the family car for a joy ride. The youngsters and families have different perspective of the actions.

Discuss the demeanor of the children and their families as they are interviewed by the media. Consider the reasons the children gave for taking the joy ride. Were they criminal in nature or fun?

Analyze the interview process. Did the media influence the perspective of the viewer?

Evaluate the consequences of the boys' actions. Were the children's actions illegal? Did the outcome fit the act? What alternatives should be considered?

Consider the sociological deviance theories. Which theory best describes the situation for each child? Are they same or different?

Elaborate upon your selection.
