Evaluate conflicts that might impede patient from adhering

Problem

A 57 year-old Polish Catholic man has a history of hypertension. He is also currently taking Coumadin. He has not finished high school and has difficulty understanding basic English, and he is hearing impaired. He is accompanied to the office with his wife, who often stops to translate what the doctor or staff is requesting.

Problem statement: Cultural and religious beliefs versus dietary recommendations. The patient is on social security disability income; and therefore, financial resources are limited. With limited resources and after having researched the culture and religious beliefs of this patient, evaluate conflicts that might impede the patient from adhering to the plan (Medical Assistant student applies his or her here by presenting findings that would lead to conflict with the doctor's instructions. The medical assistant student must educate, instruct, and evaluate outcomes).
