Problem:

A cfstr has a volume of 16000 ft3 and a flow rate of 1 ft3/second. The influent contains 300 mg/L of toluene and the effluent contains 2.5 mg/L of toluene. The removal of toluene follows first order reaction kinetics.

Required:

Question 1: Estimate the reaction rate constant

Question 2: If the basin is divided in half by placing a baffle, the system becomes two cfstrs in series. What will the effluent concentration of toluene be for the series of cfstrs
