A spur gear pair consists of an 18 tooth pinion driven at 1000 rpm by an electric motor (providing a uniform power source) and a 54 tooth gear which drives a conveyor belt system (the load can involve medium shock). The gears have a 20 degree full-depth involute tooth form, a module of 3.0 mm, and a face width of 20 mm. Both gears are cut using a low cost average quality form cutting process from steel of 240 Bhn. Estimate the maximum power that can be transmitted for a seven (7) year design life of 40 hours/week for 48 weeks/year with 99.9% reliability. Consider tooth bending failure only, using a factor of safety of 1.4.
