A series of oil storage tanks are to be constructed near Mystic River power station in Boston, MA. The typical tank is 20 m in diameter, and it exerts an average foundation stress of about 100 kPa. The soil profile at the site is very similar to that shown in Fig. 8.14a. Estimate both the total and differential consolidation settlement under the average tank.
