Write your own SW affidavit. See the Search Warrant Affidavit below. I want you to create your own short SW affidavit for a fictional crime that you make up. Fill in all of the blanks just like any LEO has to do when he or she wants a SW from a neutral and detached magistrate. You can cut and paste from this document but fill in the blanks. Name your fictitious criminal (be creative) and following my thread, put your case name on your subject line e.g., State of NC v. Bob the Burglar.
Have some fun making up your facts, but the essential elements are these:
1. You must establish that you are an experienced detective. Expand on your training, education, and experience. The more experience you have, the more credible you are for a judge to rely upon your investigation.
2. Establish that you have a crime in progress and that you have corroborated the details of tips, observations by others, etc.
3. Make sure you tie the house you want the search warrant for to the crime in progress (like drug selling).
4. Give the address (and apartment number if applicable).
