Establish rapport your interviewee

Problem:

For this reflection, you should choose a person to interview that you can meet with face-to-face (by phone if you absolutely have to). The interviewee can be a family member or friend. This interviewee (you will be completing 1 more interview in a later unit) must fall in the "middle adult" age range - 40 - 60. Be sure this person does not fall too close in age to the person you interviewed for the first interview. For example, if your interviewee for interview 1 was 39, do not choose someone for this interview that is 40 or 41 - try to have as much space as possible between the ages of your interviewees.

The purpose early in the interview is to help you establish rapport your interviewee. Begin the interview by asking the interviewee the following: where they grew up, how long they have lived at their present location, ask them about their family (parents, spouse, children, grandchildren, siblings - whatever is appropriate for your interviewee), what do they like to do (what hobbies and interests do they have?), and any other "get to know you" questions you generate. This part of the interview should last no longer than 30 minutes.

For the second part of the interviews, I want you to tie together the textbook with the interviewee. I am not going to give you a specific list of questions to ask. I want you to generate your own questions and list of those in advance. Using the textbook, fix a list of around 20 questions to ask. You may find the list you created for the first interview will work for all 3 interviewees (the other interview is coming in unit 8) or you may find that you need to change your list before each of the 3 interviews. Look back at the suggestions for the interview questions from the first interview assignment for ideas on what to ask. Also, you may find during the course of the interview that you aren't able to ask all 20 questions you have created and if that's the case, it is okay. Need Assignment Help?
