Getting started and selecting your article
In Week 2, we analysed articles using the following points. These will help you get started with your article selection.
Remember, you are looking for an article that you believe has originated through information sent from an organisation to a journalist. While public relations is involved in reactively responding to issues and media enquiries, for the purposes of this assignment, you want to think about proactive communication.
1. Identify an organisation.
2. Identify a spokesperson and their title.
3. What might have led to the publication of this article? Anything PR related? (media release, press conference, media liaison (proactive/reactive), event, social media etc.). Why?
4. Who is the organisation hoping to reach?
5. What do they want their target public to think/do/feel?
6. What might a public relations practitioner need to do next?
