PURPOSE:
1. To develop your understanding of communication in culture
2. To help others in the class gain a better understanding of the use of communication in different cultures.
3. To develop your ability to, read, and understand academic articles.
4. To develop your ability to help an audience understand relatively complex material.
5. To practice and improve your public speaking and academic writing skills
ASSIGNMENT:
1. Read one of the articles I sent you about culture and communication
2. Take notes as you read. Do you agree, or disagree? Do you find something interesting? Do you find some information you did not know before?
3. Write a responsive essay about what you read.
ESSAY AND PRESENTATION:
Using the knowledge you gained from reading the articles and write a three page essay about culture and communications. Do not use any quotations from the articles. Write your essayin your own words. If you wish to mention something you read in the article, introduce the statement with a reporting signal and give the information using your own original sentence. For example:
Sharma (2011) says that.......
How you write your essay is up to you, but it must be based on your reflections of the readings and knowledge of culture. I expect good essay writing form-an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion.
