English 2950 - define the problem and its context and offer

Moon Professional Memo

Imagine you are the character Sam Bell, from the film Moon. You have been working on the surface of the moon for three years, harvesting helium-3 for the corporation Lunar Industries. You have discovered the company's unscrupulous cloning practices, and realize that you will soon die and be replaced by one of your "other" selves. You decide to leave a memo for the incoming clone, detailing what you have discovered and what solution you propose.

Be creative in the development of your memo. While the opening of the memo should follow the basic storyline of the film and place the problem into a recognizable context, you are encouraged to add your own perspective and ideas to the solution aspect of the memo. Offer some inventive solutions for the incoming clone to contemplate.

In formatting the memo, follow the examples found in Chapter 10 of Technical Communication. Use its sample memos as a template (guide). Remember: the key to a successful memo is coherence and brevity. Clearly define the problem and its context and offer a concise solution, all within no more than two pages.

With 26 active employees, Greentree has been unable to keep up with scheduled contract. As a result, we have a contract backlog of roughly S500,000. To increase our production and ease the workload, I recommend that we hire three general lab assistants.

I have attached a short report outlining the cost benefits of these hires. Could we meet sometime next week to discuss this in detail? I will contact you on Monday.
