Literature Review
Assignment details:
The Literature Review is a brief preview of the research the student found on the topic he or she is focusing on for the major Project Essay. The Lit Review includes analysis of 4 articles: 2 journal articles, 1 popular/trade magazine article, and 1 electronic medium source. In analyzing the articles, the student should present the structure of the article (title, publication, authors, and claim). In addition and more importantly, the student should analyze the claim made by the authors of each article, the authors' abilities to prove their claims, and their biases. Lastly, given the analysis, the student must decide if the article will be beneficial to use in the Project Essay, and why or why not.
Since this essay includes multiple articles, it is suggested that students begin comparing and contrasting the research through the use of transition phrases and signal phrases. If the research is new, and the student does not know where/how it may fit into the Project Essay, then separate that particular article(s) and write the key points regarding the author's argument in different paragraphs. Also, please be sure to use the appropriate format for each major, cite each point discussed, and create a citation page.
Lastly, please remember there are people on campus who can assist with the research and the writing of this essay, as well as the Project Essay. The librarian at Harrisburg University and your professor are experts with the databases. In addition, the tutors in the Writing Center can assist with either the research or the writing, especially if the citation style is new. Lastly, let me know if you have any questions.
