Melbourne students will complete the following questions based on their field trip to Ballarat. Perth students will complete the questions based on their field trip to the IROC centre.

Question 1 -

a) What was the most dangerous activity that you undertook during the field trip? The field trip commenced when you gathered in the foyer of the building and signed the attendance sheet. The field trip was completed when you disembarked the bus in Melbourne.

b) Identify the hazards associated with your chosen activity? Justify the hazards you have identified by researching how many people have suffered injuries due to these hazards. Use reliable sources and provide references using the CQU Harvard referencing style guide.

c) Identify controls for the hazards associated with this activity. Using the hierarchy of controls rate your controls from 1 to 5, where 1 represents personal protective equipment and 5 represents elimination of the hazard.

Question 2 -

Write a summary of the geology that describes the formation of the Ballarat goldfields. Your summary should include a description of alluvial deposits, the formation of turbidites and the formation of deep leads. You should also make mention of the gold bearing host rock and how the gold migrated.

Questions 3 -

Describe three different mining systems that have been used to mine gold in the Ballarat region.

How were the alluvial deposits mined in the early gold rush days of Victoria?

How was gold mined from the deep leads using steam power?

How is gold mined in Ballarat today?

Field Report - PERTH BHP IROC VISIT

Perth Students will complete the questions based on their field trip to the IROC centre.

Question 1 -
