Information about the Research Paper Project
The research paper is an inquiry paper and should be 8-10 pages long (not including the title page, references or appendices). You must use APA format (6th edition). The research paper should be a compilation of your research and your own thoughts on the research. It should NOT be one quote after another.
Topic Selection
The topic selected must relate to a current EMS or related subject matter. It should expand your knowledge as a paramedic. The topic should be based on your interests, but useful to the group as a whole in the learning process. Make sure to select a topic that can be completed in the timeframe allowed. Your topic should neither be too broad nor too narrow. The topic you select is subject to instructor approval.
Literature Review
The literature review summarizes critical findings of other authors who have published documents related to the subject matter. If appropriate, this section may also include a summary of any interviews the author conducted with experts in the area of the subject, or patients Be sure that direct quotes substantially add to the impact of the text. Every quotation should be backed up by a few sentences of your own that support the quotation (which in turn supports the thesis statement). Be advised that when you paraphrase a source you must provide a citation and a reference. The sources you use in your literature review (and elsewhere in the paper) must be included in the references and every reference must have a corresponding citation. Interviews are cited in the text but not included in the reference section.
