Empowerment implies acceptance of all those things we've been talking about in class. It can imply we are willing to admit that we need help (if we are a manager) and that we are willing to give away some of our power to get that help. That takes great self awareness and a willingness to show that seof awareness to others. It can also imply that we're OK with the differences we see between ourself and others we work with -- we're embracing diversity rather than giving it lip service.

Empowerment also implies we are willing to listen, work as a team, brainstorm, provide feedback, mentor or coach. It means we are willing to really communicate with others.

That can be pretty scary.
