Employment expense is usually the largest expense a company has. To improve the bottom line companies often try to cut costs. The labor cost is, quite naturally, a likely target for cutting. Some employers have expressed envy for the Hollywood Model where there are no permanent employees. Most movies are projects where the "talent" and other workers are assembled on an as-needed basis. Imagine the benefit of only having workers when they are really needed. They work during your busy seasons, but you don't have to subsidize them during slower times. Makes sense, doesn't it?
