Steps to Apply for Optional Practical Training (OPT)
There are two types of Optional Practical Training (OPT):
1. Pre-Completion OPT is defined as employment beginning and ending before the completion of the academic program.
2. Post-Completion OPT is defined as employment beginning after completion of academic program.
The application for both types of OPT are the same, however the deadlines for application submission are different as noted below. Students should not submit their I-765 Application for Employment Authorization until they receive the I-20 with OPT Recommendation from their home campus
