Employee satisfaction does business have a responsibility

Employee Satisfaction. Does business have a responsibility to provide employees with more satisfying work lives?  Or to better accommodate  their family needs?  Shaw and Berry (Moral Issues in Business) claim that "women have a right to compete on an equal terrain with men."  What does this mean?  Does it mean that women ought to be given benefits, such as maternity leave, that are (seemingly) denied to men?  Does it mean that men and women ought both be allowed maternity leave?  Does it mean that women cannot justifiably be excluded from certain kinds of jobs in order to protect them and their reproductive abilities?  What, in other words, are the practical ramifications of Shaw and Barry's claim? Why or why not?
