1) Locate at least two characteristics of Realism in Daisy Miller. Use quotes from the story to provide examples. Be sure to explain your examples (don't just quote without any explanation.)

2) Respond about this answer.

Class is of Extreme Importance: In the story there is a part (pg.1424) where Mrs. Walker is trying desperately to get Annie in the carriage. She is concerned about the example she is setting. Walking late at night with two men by her side through the town. Mrs. Walker says that she must not do that sort of thing. This is an example of how society views you based on the way you carry yourself.

Emphasis is on the Character: Annie is always dressed to please. When Mr. Winterbourne first met her she was messing with the ribbons on her dress. On page 1403 it says that the young lady inspected her flounces and smoothed her ribbons. Another part of the story tells us about how she came running down the stairs putting on her gloves and buttoning snaps. All of these gave us clues as to what kind of person she was.
