Pedagogical Skills for Subject Matter Instruction

This case study report will be submitted in Word Document Format on Canvas should be 3 to 4 typed pages. For this case study, candidates will Identify a specific student in an inclusive class setting who is an English learner and is learning disabled to observe in the General Education classroom for 1-2 hours (these hours count towards your 20 required hours for the year).

In the case study report, candidates must:

Discuss the accommodations and modifications used by the teaching team to make the general curriculum accessible for a student who is an English Learner

Identify the elements of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) used to support the learning and engagement of the observed student (see UDL resources)

Explain Specially Designed Academic Instruction in English (SDAIE) strategies and English Language Development (ELD) that are utilized to support the learners

Explain how the student is able to meet the same level of expectations as the other students in the class and how the student functions within the group of students in the class.

Explain how the student's culture, level of acculturation and prior experiences may impact the student's learning.

Reflection: the candidate should explain how he/she would use interventions with this student to address his/her assessed instructional needs.
