Problem: Comment/feedback on the following: What are some elements of a successful and positive learning environment? The ideal learning environment is one which promotes safety, respect, inclusion, and support among the learners. Some important aspects are good relationship between the learners and teacher, clearly defined expectations, mutual respect, student voice, collaboration, and learning experiences. In addition, the ideal learning environment should promote diversity, encourage participation, create a sense of belongingness among the learners to make them feel comfortable with learning. What conditions do you control as a teacher/leader? As a teacher, there are various conditions that I have under my own control in the classroom. For example, I can set up conditions in which respect prevails, establish positive relationships with my students, use inclusive teaching strategies, offer various forms of learning based on the needs of each learner, and foster an atmosphere characterized by warmth and openness. What do you need to be successful (supports, resources, etc.)? For me to succeed in providing an enabling learning environment, I require the assistance of other teachers, administration, parents, and members of the school community at large.
