ECONOMIC IMPORTANCE OF WILD LIFE -

(i) Plants -

  1. Produce food.
  2. Provide Timber, paper, gums, drugs, pigments, fibres, rubber, oils, condiments & fuel.
  3. Release O2.
  4. Decorate our land scapes and provide pleasing greenery.

(ii) Animals -

  1. Earthworms & other burrowing animals make soil porous to facilitate plant growth.
  2. Animals enrich the soil with their excreta.
  3. Help in pollination and dispersal.
  4. Provide COfor photosynthesis.
  5. Provide food, fur, wool, silk, leather, musk, ivory, horns, honey, lac, hair, feathers & pearl.
  6. Some acts as scavanger.
  7. Used for transport and in agriculture operation.
  8. Some pay a roles in biological control of pests.

(iii) Micro organisms -

  1. Act as decomposers.
  2. Fix N2.
  3. Help in digestion of cellulose.
  4. Used in industries producing alcohol, acetone, vinegar, methane, vitamins & antibiotic.
