During WWII some paratroopers landed in gliders instead of dropped by parachute. The gliders had no power of their own, but were towed by a propeller driven bomber, and connected to the bomber with a tow line. Imageine that the bomber has a mass of 3000kg, and the glider has a mass of 1000kg, fully loaded with men and equipment. As it is being towed, the craft glides at a lower level than the towing craft, so that the tow line makes an angle of 20 degrees to the horizontal. The plance encounters 2000 N of drag and the glider has 1000 N of drag.

a) First, name the force that makes the pair go forward. What is creating this force? Explain.

b) Find the force driving the planes forward if the horizontal acceleration of the pair is 0.5 m/s^2. They are staying at constant altitude.

c) Find the tension in the tow line.

d) Find the lift force provided by the glider's wings.
