There are 3 stages of the HIV Infection:

1. Acute Infection=

During this stage, the person may feel like they have the flu. These symptoms may last a few weeks or persist even longer. During this time, the person is very contagious due to large amounts of the virus being produced in the body, but the problem is they may not know they have the virus.

2. Clinical Latency=

During this stage, there are symptoms that are asymptomatic (a person does not show symptoms). A person in this stage who is not on medication may live ten years or less. If the person is on HIV therapy and on the medications, they can last 20 years or more.

3. AIDS=

"Full blown AIDS" This is the most severe stage of HIV. The person will have a very weak immune system and can get very sick easily. Some of the symptoms of AIDS are chills, extreme weight loss, and other symptoms.
