During the period between 1200 and 1500 the tropical regions of sub- Saharan Africa and southern Asia developed as a world of sorts unto itself. Explain how technology, trade, Islam, and various topographic features, such as the Sahara Desert and various mountain ranges, fostered the development of this world by encouraging the cultural and economic unification of the peoples of these regions, as well as their relative isolation from northern Africa and central Asia.
