Sometimes the best way to understand what constitutes a strong mission statement is to look at other companies' mission statements. While you should not copy another company's mission statement, exemplary mission statements can suggest wording or an approach that you may want to use.
Here are some mission statements:
McDonald's: "To be our customers' favorite place and way to eat."
Patagonia: "Build the best product, cause no unnecessary harm, use business to inspire and implement solutions to the environmental crisis."
Honest Tea: "Create and promote great-tasting, healthy, organic beverages."
Nike: "Do everything possible to expand human potential."
Here are some vision statements:
Disney: "To entertain, inform and inspire people around the globe through the power of unparalleled storytelling, reflecting the iconic brands, creative minds and innovative technologies that make ours the world's premier entertainment company."
Nike: "To bring inspiration and innovation to every athlete in the world."
Apple: "To make the best products on earth, and to leave the world better than we found it."
Amazon: "Our vision is to be earth's most customer centric company; to build a place where people can come to find and discover anything they might want to buy online."
Complete the following:
• Draft a mission statement and vision statement that you plan to use for your business plan.
• Make sure that your vision statement answers, "What we want to do?"
• Make sure that your mission statement answers, "How we get there?"
The response should include a reference list. Double-space, using Times New Roman 12 pnt font, one-inch margins, and APA style of writing and citations.
