TERM PAPER
In past years students picked their own topic. However, the range of possible topics is large and students have experienced a difficult time selecting a topic and finding the necessary bibliography. Therefore I have decided to select the five topics below (anyone uncomfortable with these topics can talk to me about an alternative topic directly related to class themes; preferably not a topic related to work being done currently or previously in another class).
1. Does the US have a Genuine Free Market System?
2. Inequality in America
3. Bailout Nation
4. Economic Power and Political Influence in the US
5. Technology, Information and Democracy
Regardless of the topic selected it should contain whenever possible (and recognizing the multidisciplinary nature of some topics) solid economic analysis. Try to use economic references (economic articles) and do not rely solely on business articles. A good source for economic references for articles is the Journal of Economic Literature or its electronic index - ECONLIT. I would also recommend a) the use of books and b) keeping online advocacy sources to a minimum. All sources have to be cited in the paper (e.g., Smith, 1776). The paper has to include a bibliography and all references should include the author's name, title (if published in a journal then the journal's name,
if published in a book then the publishing house's name) date of publication. The paper should be typed, no smaller than 12 font (please use Arial) double spaced and its length should be 2500-3500 words. The pages should be numbered.
