Problem: The Texas Revolution naturally looms large within the popular mythology of Texas. But should it? Does the reputation of the Texas Revolution suffer due to the role played by slavery? As we will see in this week's lectures, many within the leadership of the Texas Revolution were concerned about the survival of slavery within Texas following several incidents within the young Mexican Republic. Does that change your opinion of it? Does it recontextualize the Revolution in any way? Or does this just reaffirm your perception of the revolution in a way that frames it within the larger American push westward through manifest destiny?
