Does the artwork have any relationship to events or other

Assignment

THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN YOUR DISCUSSION:

• An analysis of the artwork. Discuss the art, not the artist! You should only include biographical information about the artist if there is some unique bit of information that informs your discussion of the artwork.

• Appropriate art vocabulary should be included. Use your textbook.

• A discussion of methods and media. Refer to your textbook or the study guides as necessary. For example, how is a bronze sculpture created? Can you tell from the appearance if the artist added patina after the casting? Is a pottery piece hand-built or wheel thrown? How does the artist apply paint, consider brushstrokes?

• Discuss form and context. Consider the style of the artist; compare it to other artists from the book or that style. What are the similarities? What are the differences? Does the artwork have any relationship to events or other art of the time period? Is it particularly innovative? Does it have a function or narrative?

• Discuss the visual elements. Identify the most dominant 2 or 3, name them, and explain how the artist uses them. Then do the same with the principles of design. For example, don't just say "balance is a dominant principle in this work" and then move on. Describe the type of balance and how the artist achieved it.
