The main idea of White's essay is fully revealed only in the last paragraph. What is this idea? Why, after White had identified so closely with his son, reliving his own boyhood, does he suddenly feel the "chill of death"?
Does Heat-Moon assume that his readers believe in ghosts and apparitions, or does he expect that they will be skeptical? How does he ensure that readers won't write him off as crazy?
