Does a combination of letters make a word

Questions:

Question 1

Financial analysis tools are used for various reasons. For what reasons do you foresee yourself using these tools in the future? Which methods are most effective? Which are least effective?

Rerspond to this...In accounting, we use several tools to measure the financial statement, such as method ratios, vertical and horizontal analysis. I foresee myself using these tools as a financial analyst in the future if I pursue my education in the finance because most of financial analyst and bankers are using the financial statements analysis to define a cash flow of the company. The Horizontal method analysis is a percentage analysis of increases and decreases of the financial statement. The calculation to prepare the horizontal analysis is calculating the dollar difference between the two years and divide the change by the base amount. The vertical analysis is a method that shows the relationship of each component of the total segment. And the ratio analysis is a method to evaluate the financial statement. The ratio measures the firm, the degree protection of vendors, a combination of different analysis tools that are special to the investor, and the accuracy of company's cash flow. The method that is most effective will be the method ratio because ratio has liquidity, leverage, profitability, investor, and cash flow analysis. The method least effective could be the method horizontal because the process is referring to a trend analysis of the company's data, and I would have an issue to interpret the numbers calculated which will confuse me.

Question 2

comment on the following:

• Does a combination of letters make a word?
• In what ways might algorithms be said to possess power or authority?

Respond to this...

In my own personal opinion, a combination of letters should not make a word... but I am speaking from a digital immigrant's perspective. But from a digital native's perspective, they would probably think and say otherwise. Nowadays the social norm accepts the usage of slang terms (such as LOL, OMG, TTYL, etc.) and emojis as an effective means of communicating a person's thoughts, opinions, words and emotions. I am not saying that there is an issue using these letters to express a certain word or meaning, in some cases (for example if you're in a hurry and texting a personal friend), but some cases this is unacceptable. One great example of when this should not be allowed would be professional communication- in a school or work setting.

As far as algorithms goes, these are more commonly used than one may realize... and unfortunately they tend to run a person's life (more than someone is aware of as well). According to Hickman, "From dating websites and City trading floors, through to online retailing and internet searches, algorithms are increasingly determining our collective futures. Bank approvals, store cards, job matches and more all run on similar principles. The algorithm is the god from the machine powering them all, for good or ill" (2013).
