A recent report indicated that more than 19 million Americans use drugs on at least a monthly basis, and roughly 7 million of these users meet the clinical requirement for needing drug treatment. Approximately 3.8 million users were dependent on or addicted to illicit drugs.
The total economic cost to society due to illegal drug use is estimated in excess of 181 billion dollars.
