Discussion Post: The Death of Socrates: Suicide or Martyrdom?
Read "The Suicide of Socrates, 399 BC". Do you think, like this author, that Socrates committed suicide by allowing himself to be sentenced to death? Might there be reasons for one to tell lies in order to safe oneself from death, or should one simply allow an unfair penalty even when one believes it to be wrong? As you discuss this remember Socrates's idea that "an unexamined life is not worth living."
