Problem
In the Crito, Crito attempts to convince Socrates that he should escape from prison to avoid execution on the grounds that the "majority" would believe it is the right thing to do. Socrates rejects this claim because he believes that we should only worry about the opinion of those with relevant expertise (which will be a minority of people), and completely ignore the opinion of the "majority."
In matters pertaining to the good of the soul, the minority of experts is constituted by those with expertise in "justice and injustice" (or those with moral expertise).
Do you think moral expertise is possible? Are there such things as moral experts? If not, then why not? If so, can you identify any? Is there any reason to treat moral expertise differently than scientific expertise, aesthetic expertise, expertise in plumbing, etc.?
